La nuit je mens (at night I lie), which could also be called La nuit je me mens (at night I lie to myself); indeed, in the middle of his painful divorce, Alain Bashung writes this song, at first sight full of elements from the lexicon of war and resistance. They are in fact only a metaphor for his personal resistance against the acceptance of the fatality of his relationship, the denial, the attempt to grieve- which makes sense with the surrealist movement in which his songs are set, where beauty prevails over reason.
